When I first heard about the books, I wasn't really dying to read them, however I was a bit curious as to what all the hype was about. Then, after being told by several people that I "had to" read these books, I did eventually succomb to the peer pressure and began to read. I think I have a mild case of ADD and if a book doesn't grab me right off, I have a tendency to give up on it. As for the twilight books, I can't say they are the best books I have ever read in my life, but they did hold my interest and kept me wanting to read more, which says something.I finally finished #3 "Eclipse" last night. I will admit that there were times that I was an Edward fan, but in the end, I am campaigning for Jacob.
This is totally just my opinion, but I think this is a classic example of what a teenage girl is in love with (pretty boy with $$) versus the more mature perspective of what is really important (someone who truly loves you and would do anything for you. Someone you would love to grow old with and who you can really identify with) I know that Bella doesn't claim she is interested in Edward's money, etc., but to me it seemed like she felt a little insecure around him and the Cullen's, but she could just relax and be herself with Jacob.
But hey.......what do I know about matters of the heart. Apparently I haven't figured out how to find one boy that is interested in me, let alone two. Bella is WAY ahead of me in this department.

I loved these books! And I feel a little guilty for saying so. My heart is torn and I really want to vote for both:)
As you know I was reluctant to read these books and then almost emabrrased that I couldn't put them down. In the end, I am a true fan of Jacob. I just don't see what is that great about Edward. He seems like a controlling guy that is attracted to Bella like prey. Jacob on the other hand makes Bella laugh and relax and he would be easier for her to be with.
So Goob directed me over here as I have some extremely strong feelings on the matter. Mostly I want to pretent I never read them. But secretly I can admit I read the first without being able to put it down, got through the second without much trouble. But had to FORCE myself to gut out the third. I do have to remind myself that these are "teen chick lit", and cut them a break. We also had a rather lengthy discussion over them with my poor Dad and Brother listening in horror to questions such as can vampires actually...(erm.. you know)... And for that matter... CAN they? Anyway, I absolutely cannot STAND Edward. Controlling, bossy, creepy (and I don't mean because he's a vampire... that is one of his only remotely sexy qualities). He watches her sleep for crying out loud! And when he does leave her alone, he has her babysat. Bella's no better. She's whiney, mopey, clumbsy. Jeez. And let's not forget the whole POINT of being a vampire is that your prey is attracted to you. I wish the author would have given us SOME reason for them to be so in love. It would be so much more interesting if you knew WHY. Why? Why? Are they so in love they'd rather die than be apart. Because at least with Jacob you have some depth to the relationship that gives it merit.
I could go on. But I'll spare you. Thanks for the platform. I feel better.
I am so happy to find people that feel the same way I do about Jacob! Every time I tell people that I prefer Jacob to Edward it is like I committed blasphemy. While I did enjoy the books (they were compelling); I definitely wouldn't consider them particularly well written. Bella is the stereotypical self-centered teen--really wake up and do something nice for someone in the world (I don't know maybe Washington doesn't have people in need--I haven't spent too much time there.)Anyway, the Jacob/Edward debate: WIth Edward, Bella is insecure all of the time. She never feels pretty enough or clever enough. With Jacob, Bella is a relaxed, comfortable, normal person. She laughs with him and he protects her without being controlling. Plus, Jacob is warm! What girl on this planet would chose to be with a guy that was cold to the touch? I'd choose heat any day.
